Artist Statement

My art's primary focus is on the natural beauty, abstract patterns and inherent rhythms of the landscape.  I find this subject in a multitude of places:  in the midst of urban areas, upon a ridge in the grandeur of the mountains, in the depths of a forest, at the edge of a quiet stream or secluded lake, and even in the reflection within a puddle on a street or sidewalk.   I seek to capture the elusive, fleeting gestures of these places as they reveal their magical splendor in different  seasons, lights, and weather and to invite you to experience this same magnificence and rapture of nature’s beauty.

Reflections in water and trees are frequent themes in my work.  Metaphorically, I choose to paint reflections in water to remind us to also take the time to stand back and truly ponder all of our actions so that we may become optimal stewards of both our environment and our humanity.

Artist Bio

Sukey Jacobsen is largely a self taught artist, but takes her personal studies very seriously.  She continues to take workshops from some of the most reputable instructors in various media. This provides opportunity for continued growth and insight. Currently she is focusing on water media such as watercolor, gouach and acrylic.

Sukey was originally trained as a professional musician and received both BA and MA degrees in early music.   A permanent hand injury forced her to change careers and she obtained an MLS in Library and Information Science and worked for many years as a science and technical research librarian and database designer and developer.  She wishes to use every experience for continued improvement in her artistic endeavors.

She is an avid hiker and lover of the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest.  She chooses most often to represent this splendor in her works.  Her works may be viewed locally in numerous venues and on her website.
